How To Make Hash Rosin (Video)

How to Make Hash Rosin with a Hydraulic Press

If you’re looking to make solventless concentrates at home, hash rosin is one of the cleanest and most satisfying ways to do it. Unlike extraction methods that rely on chemical solvents, hash rosin uses nothing but heat and pressure to squeeze flavorful oils directly from quality hash. With a hydraulic press, the process becomes much more efficient, giving you consistent pressure and better yields than manual methods.

The basic process starts with quality hash—bubble hash or dry sift generally works best, especially when it’s clean and properly dried. Lower quality material will still press, but your yields and final flavor will take a hit. Once your hash is ready, it’s typically packed into a fine micron rosin bag to help keep contaminants out of the final product.

From there, preheat your rosin plates to an appropriate pressing temperature. Lower temps tend to preserve terpenes and flavor, while slightly higher temps may increase yield at the cost of some aroma. Place the packed bag between parchment paper, position it carefully between the heated plates, and begin applying pressure gradually. The key is patience—slow pressure allows the oils to flow cleanly instead of forcing plant material through the bag.

As the rosin begins to flow, you’ll see golden oil collecting on the parchment. Once the flow slows significantly, release the pressure and remove the parchment. After cooling, collect your rosin using a dab tool and store it in a sealed container away from heat and light.

A hydraulic press makes this process much easier because it provides controlled, repeatable pressure that’s difficult to achieve by hand. If you already have a shop press setup or enjoy DIY extraction gear, it’s a great option for producing high-quality concentrates without relying on expensive commercial equipment.
